Dell Laptops are being recalled

Seems the battery can overheat to the point where they catch fire. I thought this baby was getting a little too toasty - I'm glad I'm in the habit of turning it off. So are the boys.

If you have a Dell laptop, I think it's any that shipped Jun 04 - Jul 06 (don't quote me on that). And I had to enter my numbers a few times to get "Replacement Required" - I knew we had purchased in the right time, and my 2nd set of numbers were in the recall - I had to change some of my alphabetical o's to zero's, even in alpha streams. Shame on them for making it so difficult.

But oh so typical of a corporation trying to protect the bottom line, while pretending to do the right thing.

I undocked my laptop to look at the battery, but then I needed a screwdriver to open the battery compartment, but somehow my desk drawers were jammed in the lock position (but there is no lock, and no key), so I couldn't open the drawers to look for my screwdriver. And I couldn't go online to look up the maintenance number for the facilities dispatcher to come and fix my desk without redocking so as to get back on the network, and by then I was distracted by the grapefruit that I had placed in the desk drawer, mourning the fact that I wouldn't be able to enjoy it, considering it takes facilities weeks, sometimes, to get to piddly service requests such as mine. So I redocked the laptop and decided not to worry about the battery, because if my laptop catches fire, it will have done so at the office, not my home office, and the company should have a list of all the serial numbers of equipment it has assigned to its employees anyway...

...and a bit later, I kicked or rattled the cabinet and somehow was able to get it to open. So I ate my grapefruit with gusto. And now I leave the drawers slightly ajar. Just in case.

...what was I talking about? Oh. Dell batteries. :)
